Police Station

Our Police Station department often provides assistance from the moment a person is arrested by the Police, and the advice will continue throughout the persons detention, and unlike others we liaise with families (subject to consent) as loved ones are as much affected by the actions of the Police and accordingly keep them updated till the conclusion of the matter at the Police station.

Given the fact we have dealt with serious matters, we are accustomed to specialized units of the Police such as Homicide & Major Enquiry Team (HMET), Serious Crime Agency (SOCA), Counter Terrorism Unit (SO15) and many other teams. These units are highly trained officers who do not follow normal lines; however our experience places us well to deal with the tactics they may employ.

If you face arrest it is important to remember the following;

  • Do not panic
  • Do not seek to impede the Police in any way as this may result in a Criminal offence being committed
  • Do not make any comment following your arrest, as anything you do say can be used against you, nothing is off the record.
  • Avoid speaking the Police as they  may be recording the conversations with a view to conducting voice analysis or extracting evidence. If arrested under the Terrorism Act, then say nothing at all as you will be recorded covertly
  • Request a Solicitor immediately on arriving at the Police Station, be firm but polite the Police may suggest that you use the Duty Solicitor as they may be quicker, the attendance of a Solicitor does not determine the time you will spend in Police Custody, this is determined by the Police, but they  will often suggest otherwise
  • You have the right to have someone informed of your arrest, other than your Solicitor and you may be allowed to speak to them
  • Initial contact with a Solicitor will by telephone
  • Under no circumstances speak to the police about the offence; however trivial you may think it is, before you have been properly advised.
  • You will be required to provide DNA samples, tested for drugs (if it is what’s known as a trigger offence) and fingerprints, this is normal. Refusal to provide could lead to other sanctions but you can seek advice before hand.
  • The advice is continuous during the whole period of your detention.

We offer advice and assistance for any offence and can attend Police Stations, regardless of location or time or day. We operate a 24hour emergency line which can be accessed either by the person arrested or by the family of the person arrested so call us on 07817 588 749
